Alice Keely – Hypnobirthing Midwife (DipHE BSc MSc)
“I first came across Hypnobirthing whilst working as a community midwife around 10 years ago. Since then I have worked with many birthing women, having both hospital births and home births, who have used Hypnobirthing techniques. I have been repeatedly impressed by how different these births have been and have become convinced of the huge importance of feeling calm and relaxed during birth. I believe this may be achieved through effective preparation, self-hypnosis and knowledge of how the birthing body actually works.
I qualified as a midwife in 2001 and initially worked for five years at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Trust. I practised in a variety of clinical settings, including hospital, community, antenatal teaching, specialist high-risk midwifery and specialist homebirth midwifery teams. I relocated to Edinburgh in 2006 and currently work as both a clinical and research midwife at Edinburgh Simpson Centre for Reproductive Health and the University of Edinburgh. I completed an MSc in Public Health Research in 2008. I live in Dunbar with my family.
I trained as a Hypnobirthing Midwifery Practitioner in London with Judith Flood and am a Full Member of the Association of Hypnobirthing Midwives (AHBM). I have been registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and a Full Member of the Royal College of Midwives (RCM) since 2001.
During my career as a midwife I have maintained a strong commitment to keeping birth normal and I have never lost sight of the unique and life-changing experience that birth represents for every woman and couple. In undertaking this course, I aim to enable you to make your birth a calm and empowering experience, and a fear-free, positive way to meet your baby.”
